Your contact time. Planned, documented, evidenced.

Umgangszeit is the app for parents whose child lives somewhere else. Contact times, cancellations, costs and memories in one place. Everything stays on your phone.

Document contact times

Every contact time with date, handover and status. Cancellations with the stated reason, factual and time-stamped. When it matters, you have the chronology, not just your memory.

Make costs visible

Fuel receipts, tickets, accommodation: photograph them, pick them from your gallery or import them as PDFs from Files, in batches too. The app detects merchant, date, amount and category and suggests the matching contact time, you confirm. If a receipt is already recorded, it tells you straight away and only saves it a second time if you explicitly want it to.

It plans your trips with you: outbound and return, route and kilometres are recorded per contact time, you enter the travel time with an hours-and-minutes picker, planned and actual side by side. If you cancel a contact time and were already on the road, one tick puts the outbound and return trip straight into your trips. Retroactively too, even last year's shoebox. For you. And one day, perhaps, for your child.

Keep memories

What your child said, what you did together, what you do not want to forget. A memory book for the two of you, kept apart from what you might one day have to show someone else. You crop the photo for an entry yourself after choosing it: move, zoom, round preview, done.

Sound familiar?

You say goodbye to your child and, as you drive away, act as if everything were fine.

You only hear about the small victories second-hand.

And sometimes you wonder whether your child knows you would have been there every single day.

Umgangszeit does not change the distance. But it makes sure none of it gets lost: not a trip, not a receipt, not a single thing your child said.

Everything stays on your phone.

  • No account, no server, no cloud. Umgangszeit stores everything on your device.
  • Your backup is an ordinary ZIP file with images, a PDF and a list of all entries, which you can open without the app.
  • And if you want to, you delete everything with two taps.

Who is building this

I am Marc, a father from Berlin. My daughter lives 800 kilometres away with her mother. After two years of trips, receipts and paper chaos, I started building the app I would have needed myself. I am a computer scientist and develop Umgangszeit alongside my day job, with no investors and no advertising. If something is missing, write to me.

Four questions up front

Does it cost anything?

The app is free to use. Extended features are planned for later, such as a detailed export. Those may cost something. What is free today stays free.

Will it hold up in court?

No, and anyone who promises you that should make you suspicious. Umgangszeit structures your documentation so that it is complete, chronological and traceable. What a court makes of it is for the court to decide. What documentation is actually worth is covered in our guide: Keeping a contact log.

When can I use it?

The first test version goes to the waiting list in October, first to everyone who wants to test. The launch in the app stores is planned for November.

I am the parent the child lives with. Does the app help me?

Yes, the app documents contact times whichever side you are on. If the other parent does not turn up on agreed days, you record that with a timestamp and reason, exactly as I do when a contact time is cancelled from the other side. Only the cost section is tailored to the travelling parent. It was built from my perspective first, but the chronology does not take sides (and neither do the children). More on what applies to contact in the first place: What can I expect when it comes to contact?
